Crest of the Premier of Prince Edward Island

Hon. Dennis King

Brookfield, PEI

To our Nova Scotian friends, As your friends and neighbours, Prince Edward Islanders are heartbroken by what this senseless, horrific tragedy. In this time of despair, words, no matter how carefully or thoughtfully crafted, can never fill the void left inside of those who now must find a way to carry on, at a time when it seems almost impossible to do so. However, there is comfort in the care and compassion voiced through our words. There is a shared sorrow in the outpouring of our tears. And there is a bond of togetherness and friendship that grows from the love that bursts within our hearts. We have lost so many. We have lost so much. As we summon the strength to move forward, we must find the blessings and comfort in the memories, in the smiles, the tears and stories, of those taken from us. The greatest tribute we can pay to those who have been lost is to live, as they did, by choosing to treasure in our hearts the gifts of love, kindness, community and family. On behalf of all Islanders, please accept our deepest and most sincere condolences. Sincerely, Hon.

Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island

A Message to All Nova Scotians It is with profound sadness that I learned of your tragic and senseless loss. Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by me and, in fact, all Canadians. Please accept my sincerest and deepest condolences. My hope is that your deceased loved ones left their earthly home knowing they were truly loved. In the words of Antonine Maillet -- 'Love is the only thing we bring to eternity.' I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all those who answered the call for help with such dedication and compassion. I offer my heartfelt appreciation to those who continue to assist the whole community in overcoming this incomprehensible tragedy. Their care and love will surely provide much-needed peace and strength during this most challenging time. May you be blessed and comforted as you grieve. 'Grief is the price we pay for love.' - Queen Elizabeth II With caring sympathy.

As a Bluenoser on PEI, I am grieving for all of the Nova Scotian families and friends of the victims who must be struggling even more dreadfully now that the pandemic does not allow normal closure procedures. This week, the PEI government has allowed me a few moments of grieving here, right in the middle of Charlottetown, with its very moving memorial to Nova Scotia. Both by day and by night, the government services building lets passersby have a chance, on that almost totally empty street, stop to say our respects.

Nova Scotia is my province of birth, and my Father, and his Father...and a place I visit several times every year. I have so many great memories from the Valley, Coddles Harbor, Mahone Bay, Halifax, Lunenburg, Lockeport, and many other places in Nova Scotia, where many relatives and friends reside....and where, during this tragedy, were all reaching out to each other, and strangers alike, as we were doing here in PEI. Sending deepest condolences and wishes of hope for all the families and friends who suffered a loss.

Deepest sympathy to our friends and neighbours in Nova Scotia. I can’t begin to imagine your pain and sadness. I painted this on Monday as a way of coping with this tragedy our Nova Scotia neighbours are trying to get their heads around. I used the RCMP colours (blue, yellow, red and brown for their boots) to honour the police officer killed, extra red for all the other innocent lives lost, the lighter blue is for the ocean waters that surround us, and the red heart represents the deep love and support you friends on PEI are sending. Healing prayers to you all, Patricia

As I write this, the horrors of last weekend are still fresh in our minds and hearts. In an already disrupted world, where suffering has visited every corner of our human family, what happened in Nova Scotia piled a different, more immediate and unspeakably raw grief upon that which we were already experiencing. My thoughts are with the immediate families of the victims, the communities to which they belonged, and the entire province of Nova Scotia. May the peace, easiness and beauty of our Atlantic community be soon restored.

Paul Ledwell

We in PEI and in PEI Government stand with you now and always. Stay strong.
