2018 PEI Cannabis Survey Report
On October 17, 2018, the Government of Canada legalized cannabis for non-medical purposes. Non-medical purposes include recreational, social, spiritual, lifestyle, and other non-medical uses.
The PEI’s Chief Public Health Office developed the PEI Cannabis Survey in response to a need to supplement health and safety data collected through national surveys. The survey contains questions on cannabis-use behaviours, attitudes, and knowledge of lower-risk cannabis use. This report describes non-medical cannabis use among Islanders aged 16 years and older who completed the first PEI Cannabis Survey in August and September 2018, preceding the legalization of cannabis for non-medical purposes. Results of the survey will help inform public health and safety programs, and policies.
