Local Government Resource Handbook

This guide has been prepared by the Municipal Affairs Division of the Prince Edward Island Department of Fisheries and Communities. It provides a brief overview of what members of council will encounter or need to know during their term of office, such as the roles of council and administration, conflict of interest, public participation in municipal decision-making and council’s role in financial management. It also provides helpful tips to assist members of council in making a positive and lasting contribution to their municipality.

The 1st edition of this guide was published in December 2018. It has been updated to reflect recent amendments to the Municipal Government Act.
