2026-2027 Online Registration for Apprenticeship In-school Training

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Apprenticeship at  (902) 368-4460 or by email at jdburke@gov.pe.ca

Do I have to leave my job to attend in-school training?

Yes, your employer will release you to attend in-school training and allow you to return to work following the training.

Please Note:  For the Welder and Machinist Blended Learning Project, there is no requirement for EI eligibility and apprentices remain working while attending training.  Please contact your training officer for more information.

Am I eligible to attend training with cost assistance?

In order to attend block release training and have Skills PEI pay for your training you must:

  1. be a registered apprentice with the PEI Apprenticeship Section, Province of Prince Edward Island;
  2. be eligible for Employment Insurance; and
  3. be unemployed at the beginning of training.

Please Note:  For the Welder and Machinist Blended Learning Project, there is no requirement for EI eligibility and apprentices remain working while attending training.  Please contact your training officer for more information.

How long will it take to complete the registration?

It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You must complete the form in one sitting because the form cannot be saved.

Apprentices and employers should discuss the schedule before the apprentice registers for training.

When will I receive my training package?

You will receive your training package approximately 4 weeks before training begins.  Please fill out all forms as soon as possible and submit them to one of the SkillsPEI contacts on the form.

What if my trade or level of training is not listed on the schedule below?

If in-school training is not available on PEI, apprentices will need to take their training through New Brunswick or Nova Scotia colleges.  PEI apprenticeship must request these seats for you.  Please contact your training officer as soon as possible to ensure your name gets on a list as seats cannot be guaranteed.

When can I sign up for training?

Apprentices who wish to register for training should do so as early as possible.

Class schedules can change depending on demand - classes may be cancelled, rescheduled or additional ones added.  All apprentices should check in with their employer before registering.

Some classes are offered more than once. Apprentices who will have the recommended hours at the start of class should register early to get the class they prefer.  Those who do not have the recommended hours may still be enrolled but priority will be given to those do.

For the best experience during in-school apprenticeship training, you should have the following hours in your logbook at the start of training.

  • Block 1: 1620 hrs
  • Block 2: 3240 hrs
  • Block 3: 4860 hrs
  • Block 4: 6480 hrs
