Apply for a PEI Pass

The PEI Pass allows returning Islanders and visitors who meet the appropriate criteria to be exempt from self-isolation when entering the province. The PEI Pass can be used multiple times providing the conditions of the pass are met on entry to PEI.

Who can apply for a PEI Pass?

The following travelers who have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (at least 21 days prior to arrival):

  • PEI residents returning home after traveling within the four Atlantic provinces and the Magdalen Islands.
  • Visitors coming to PEI from within the four Atlantic provinces or permanent residents of the Magdalen Islands.

Travelers who have been fully vaccinated (two doses) with a COVID-19 vaccine:

  • PEI residents returning home after traveling outside of the four Atlantic provinces and the Magdalen Islands.
  • Visitors coming to PEI from outside of the Atlantic provinces (including U.S. citizens/permanent residents who have been granted permission to enter Canada by the federal government on or after August 9, 2021).
    • When applying for a PEI Pass, select travel category: Visitors from outside Atlantic Canada or the Magdalen Islands
  • Note:  Travelers age 12-17 years (including Island residents) who have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine + 21 days are eligible for a PEI Pass for travel outside of the Atlantic provinces and the Magdalen Islands until September 7, 2021; after Sept 7, 12-17 year olds must be fully vaccinated to be eligible for a PEI Pass.
Note for rotational workers and truck drivers: If you are a registered PEI rotational worker or registered PEI truck driver and have already provided your vaccine record to CPHO, you will receive a PEI Pass automatically; if you have not yet provided your vaccine record to CPHO, please contact peiworkertravel@ihis.org to apply for your PEI Pass.
Note for International Travel: A PEI Pass does not grant you acess to Canada. Before making plans to travel to Prince Edward Island, you should first find out if you are eligible to enter Canada and review the COVID-19 vaccinated travellers entering Canada web page. If you are eligible to enter Canada, work your way through every step in your checklist to understand how to plan and prepare. Each step has specific requirements and exemptions that will follow through to later stages of your travel. You must be exempt from self-isolation at the federal border to be eligible for a self-isolation exemption in PEI with a PEI Pass within your first 14 days in the country.

Are children required to complete the form?

Parents/guardians must fill out a separate PEI Pass for each vaccinated child aged 12-17.

If children under 12 are travelling with at least one vaccinated parent/guardian with a PEI Pass, they are not required to self-isolate on PEI, and do not need a pass or other travel registration.

  • PEI school-aged children under the age of 12 years, who have been out of the province for more than 48 hours, should have a negative test before they return to school and be tested again on days four and eight.
  • School-aged children under 12 years who have been out of province for less than 48 hours should be tested on days four and eight.
  • For information on testing for PEI resident school aged children under 12, see here.

Children under the age of 12 who are traveling with unvaccinated parents/families must isolate with their families and are included in the family’s self-isolation declaration.

If children under the age of 12 are travelling with both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, see updated isolation requirements under “what does it mean to self-isolate?”.

PEI Pass holders will be eligible to enter PEI without isolation, provided they meet the following conditions:

  • Have your PEI Pass with you on entry to PEI, along with matching government issued Photo ID (see the supporting documents page for acceptable ID minors age 12-17).
  • Have not been diagnosed with or showed symptoms of COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to travel to PEI
  • Have not been in contact with someone with active COVID-19 or in isolation in the 14 days prior to travel to PEI
  • Agree to be tested on entry as directed by public health officials
  • Agree to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and seek testing as soon as possible if symptoms develop
  • Individuals who are only partially vaccinated must have been in the Atlantic provinces/Magdalen Islands for at least 14 days (or have completed your 8 day self-isolation in PEI)

If you ARE NOT eligible for the PEI Pass but you are looking to enter PEI, complete a self isolation declaration. More information on travel to PEI is here.
