Apply for a Marriage Certificate Online

After your marriage takes place and is officially registered with Vital Statistics, you can apply for either a Certified Copy of Registration of Marriage or a Marriage Certificate, which are legal documents for proof of marriage.

What do I need to apply for a marriage certificate?

If you are completing the online request for a marriage certificate, you must provide your application information, which includes your name, telephone number, email, and mailing address. When you select "I'm not a robot" and "Save," you will be asked for what type of document you wish to apply. Choose "Apply for a Marriage Certificate."

You will be asked to respond to the following:

  • Why are you applying for a marriage certificate? 
  • What was the date of your marriage?
  • Where did you get married?

You will also be asked to provide your and your spouse's names and birth country and province or state exactly as they appear on the marriage license. If the information is incorrect, you will be given the opportunity to change it.

If you apply online you must provide a valid credit card/ debit card number and expiry date. If you are downloading and submitting the form to Vital Statistics, you may pay with:

  • valid credit card/ some debit card payments
  • money order or cheque payable to Minister of Finance, or
  • cash or debit payments (in person only).

What is the fee for a marriage certificate?

How long does it take to complete the online form?

It will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete both the identification portion and the application for the marriage certificate. 

How long will it take to process my request?

Standard service is 8 business days, plus mail time. (Pending receiving time of marriage registrations) Rush service is processed in two business days at an additional cost. (Does not include mail time)
