Apply for subsidized Maritime Bus tickets for out-of-province medical travel

If you require medical services in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, you may qualify for financial assistance to travel with Maritime Bus.

Read this page before buying your ticket. You will not be reimbursed for tickets bought before your application is approved. 

Do I qualify for travel assistance with Maritime Bus?

To apply for reduced fare for out-of-province medical travel with Maritime Bus you must have:

  • prior approval from Health PEI for your out-of-province services,
  • a valid PEI Health Card, and, 
  • not received financial travel support from a non-governmental source.

Eligibility is based on your total annual net household income reported on your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment from the previous year (line 236).*

 If eligible and your annual net household income is: 

  • $0 - $45,000, you may qualify for 100% off the price of your bus ticket (you pay $0)
  • $45,001 - $65,000, you may qualify for 50% off the price of your bus ticket 

*Household net income is based on the combined tax returns of both you and your spouse, if applicable.

What documents do I need to apply for travel assistance with Maritime Bus?

You will need your current Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment(s) and your PEI Health Card.

You must apply at least 10 days prior to out-of-province travel.

What if I have to make multiple trips with Maritime Bus?

If you need to make multiple trips, contact the Out-of-Province Travel Support Program at 902-368-5918 to have your application resubmitted. 

Can I travel with another bus or shuttle company?

Health PEI only subsidizes travel with Maritime Bus. For other forms of travel assistance, see Financial Assistance for Out-of-Province Medical Travel.

What happens after I submit the application?

Health PEI will contact you to review your application with you and let you know if it has been approved. 

If approved, Health PEI will notify Maritime Bus and they will deduct the subsidy when you book your ticket. 

Do not buy your ticket before Health PEI contacts you. You will not be reimbursed for previously bought tickets. 

How long will it take to complete the application?

It will take you about 20 minutes to complete the application, which must be done in one sitting. You cannot save this form.
