Background on Poverty Reduction Action Plan for PEI

Government  committed to creating a collaborative Poverty Reduction Action Plan to address poverty on Prince Edward Island.

Poverty Reduction Advisory Council

The Poverty Reduction Advisory Council, made up of 12 community members, guided the process. We used a whole-of-community collaborative approach. Our process brought together:

  • those affected by poverty
  • community members
  • not-for-profit groups
  • private sector
  • other government sectors
  • academia and researchers

Background Documents

A PEI Poverty Reduction Discussion Paper along with fact sheets provided background information on poverty issues, including:

Public Engagement Process

Islanders' experiences and thoughts about poverty were gathered throughout the spring of 2018 as part of a public engagement process to help develop a collaborative, province-wide poverty reduction action plan.  Activities included:

  • Public survey
  • Service provider survey
  • Small group conversations with people with lived experience and service providers
  • Community conversations that were open to the public

How was input used?

The ideas and feedback of individuals, families and communities gathered during the public engagement process informed the action plan.
