Consultation for Municipal Government Act Amendments

Proposed amendments to the Municipal Government Act are now available for review and comment.

What changes are being proposed?

Most of the proposed changes are minor typos and for legal clarity and consistency. Other proposed changes stem from the administration of municipal elections, specific requests to provide PACE programming, COVID-19 response and policy changes. 

Why make these changes now?

The Municipal Government Act (MGA), proclaimed in December 2017, established standards regarding good governance, financial accountability, administration and service delivery while also providing greater authority, flexibility and discretion. The Municipal Affairs division has tracked all feedback received on the MGA and associated regulation since proclamation.
