- have a valid PEI Health Card.
How much funding can be accessed?
The program will provide a lifetime maximum benefit of $20,000 for eligible expenses associated with IVF and/or IUI treatments. Funding is not income-tested. Funding can be accessed as eligible expenses are incurred after the applicant is approved and enrolled in the program.

The Enrollment Agreement outlines the terms and conditions of participation in the Program, including claim submission requirements, participant responsibilities, and other important program information.
You can access approved funding until you reach the maximum benefit or leave PEI to establish residency elsewhere.

Approved applicants must submit claims for reimbursement to receive the funding.
To receive reimbursement, you will need to:

- Provide copies of detailed invoices and receipts

The completed Expense Claim Form and copies of detailed invoices and receipts must be submitted within six months of receiving the fertility treatment under the Program.
What if I have private insurance?
In cases where the private insurance coverage for IVF/IUI procedures and/or any prescribed medications exists, we encourage applicants to utilize your private insurance first. You can then submit the remaining out-of-pocket eligible expenses to the Fertility Treatment Funding Program.
Can I receive money upfront?
No. Successful applicants will be reimbursed for expenses after they have occurred.
Can I receive funding for expenses I already had?
No, expenses incurred outside the approved funding period or that occurred prior to the date identified in the approval letter are not eligible for reimbursement. Previous and current Program participants should refer to the information below.
Can I claim medical expenses related to fertility treatment and/or associated medication on an income tax return?
Expenses for fertility treatments (IUI and IVF) and associated prescribed medication that were not covered through the private insurance and/or fertility treatment funding may be claimed as a medical expense on your tax return. For more information please contact the Canada Revenue Agency.
Do I have to apply before starting the treatment?
No. However, expenses incurred prior to your approval date will not be eligible for reimbursement.
What if I move away from PEI?
Your eligibility for this program will end the day you leave PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
Who is administering the program?
Department of Health and Wellness staff will administer the program.
