Give your input to the Next Agricultural Policy Framework

The PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking feedback from Islanders for the next agriculture policy framework which will launch April 1, 2018. An online survey is part of a larger consultation process that will inform the development of agriculture programming and initiatives for the province.

What is the Next Agricultural Policy Framework?

An agricultural policy framework is an agreement that outlines policy and program priorities to be delivered by federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) governments across Canada. The current agricultural policy framework, known as Growing Forward 2, will expire in 2018. It will be replaced by a new agreement that is being referred to as the next policy framework (NPF).

What types of questions are in the survey?

We want your feedback on programs or initiatives for the priority areas listed below and outlined in the Calgary Statement that was released by the federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture in July 2016:

  • Markets and trade
  • Science, research and innovation
  • Environmental sustainability and climate change
  • Value-added agriculture and agri-food processing
  • Public trust

Survey questions are broad and open-ended in order to collect a range of ideas for agriculture policy and programs for Prince Edward Island.

What is the deadline for input?

The online consultation period is open from January 27 to March 27, 2017.
