Municipal Government Act - Draft Regulations

As part of the ongoing implementation process for the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and in keeping with the province’s commitment to consultation, draft regulations are being reviewed. 

The Department of Communities, Land and Environment is committed to supporting municipalities in meeting new requirements. Resources, including bylaw templates, and training related to access to information and records retention are being developed by Municipal Affairs.

Access to Information Regulations (DRAFT)

  • Regulations that govern the development of Access to Information and Protection of Privacy bylaws to ensure access by the public to information and records under the control of municipality and the protection of personal information held by the municipality. 

Records Retention Regulations (DRAFT)

  • Regulations that govern the establishment of a Records Retention bylaw to provide for the establishment, and ongoing management, of a retention system for records under the control of the municipality. 

General Regulations (DRAFT)

  • Regulations that provide additional guidance on specific matters set out in the Act that are too brief to warrant individual regulations.
