Municipal Government Act - Draft Regulations

As part of the ongoing implementation process for the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and in keeping with the province’s commitment to consultation, draft regulations are available for review and comment. 

The Department of Communities, Land and Environment is committed to supporting municipalities in meeting new requirements.  Resources, including bylaw templates, and training related to access to information and records retention are being developed by Municipal Affairs.

Share your thoughts on the draft regulations posted below.  All feedback received by January 31, 2019 will be reviewed.  The Department of Communities, Land and Environment appreciates your interest and involvement in this process.

Which regulations are open for feedback?

Access to Information Regulations

  • Regulations that govern the development of Access to Information and Protection of Privacy bylaws to ensure access by the public to information and records under the control of municipality and the protection of personal information held by the municipality. 

Records Retention Regulations 

  • Regulations that govern the establishment of a Records Retention bylaw to provide for the establishment, and ongoing management, of a retention system for records under the control of the municipality. 

General Regulations

  • Regulations that provide additional guidance on specific matters set out in the Act that are too brief to warrant individual regulations.
