Request a Computer for a Non-Profit Group or Charity
Government and the private sector donates surplus computers, equipment and software to Computers for Success (CFS) PEI to be repaired, refurbished and distributed to learning organizations throughout the Province. Any registered PEI not-for-profit organization, group or charity may request refurbished equipment, cost free, as long as it will be used for learning purposes.
Apply to Computers for Success PEI using the online form below.
What is the type and quality of the donated equipment?
CFS accepts personal computers, laser printers, laptops and monitors in good working order. Trained technicians replace parts, clear the hard drives, install operating systems and basic software, and thoroughly clean and repackage each unit before it is distributed.
Is software pre-installed on the equipment?
All computers and laptops issued by Computers for Success have Windows 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010 pre-installed. If you do not want to have this software installed, email email@example.com prior to requesting equipment. Indicate the equipment you wish to have excluded from the software installation.
What do I need to complete the online form?
Your online request must include the following:
- Current contact details including address for your organization
- Registered Charity Number
- If CFS equipment was previously received (if applicable)
- Equipment request, i.e. number and type of units
- Intended use of equipment including potential educational benefits and/or current equipment situation and proposed use of new equipment.
How long will it take to complete the online form?
Providing you have the necessary information gathered, you can complete the form in about 15 minutes.
How long will it take to receive equipment?
Equipment requests are processes first come, first served. The delivery time (for hardware and software) depends on the availability of computers and technical staff.
About Computers for Success
Computers for Success is a federal program administered by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada in collaboration with other federal departments, provinces, and territories and the private, not-for-profit, and volunteer sectors. Provincially, it is delivered by the PEI Department of Finance.
Under the Youth Employment Strategy, CFS employs technical program graduates, co-op students, university students, youth interns, youth at risk, contract technicians, labourers, and people with physical and/or mental challenges. It also depends on the services of hundreds of volunteers.
Computer systems are refurbished and recycled so they do not end up in landfill sites. Non-working systems are stripped of all functional parts and used to repair other systems. Drives containing older or unusable software are cleared and re-used or destroyed.
So far, more than 20,000 computers has been delivered through CFS to recipients on Prince Edward Island, and more than 1.4 million computers have been distributed to schools, libraries and not-for-profit learning organizations throughout Canada.
For information on how the program works or to support the program with donations of equipment, expertise or funds, please contact Computers for Success PEI at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 902-368-4003.
