Summer Food Security Program

The Department of Social Development and Housing is offering food support for Island families in need. If your family is facing challenges securing healthy food, this program can help. We provide pre-cooked, reheatable meals for children that are delivered directly to your home.

Who is Eligible for the Summer Food Security Program?

The program operates on a self-referral basis. Any family facing challenges with food security is eligible to receive meals for children. Children must be able to consume solid food. 

Meals will be delivered to any area of the province and to varied types of housing (apartments, house, day programs, duplex, etc). Please provide detailed delivery instructions pertaining to your type of accommodation. We can also make arrangements to deliver to childcare locations or workplaces as necessary.

How Do I Apply? 

Applications are accepted online through the link at the bottom of this page. You do not have to re-register for the program every week, you will continue to receive meals until the program ends on September 3rd or you cancel your participation.

What Information is Required? 

The application is simple and requires minimal information. We are asking for the following: 

  • Name of parent or guardian
  • Contact info for parent or guardian (phone number and email) 
  • Address for delivery 
  • Number of children
  • Allergies or food sensitivities
  • Any special delivery instructions 

How and When is the Service Provided? 

Meals are delivered at different times depending on the vendor in your area.

West Prince Region: Delivered every Tuesday and Thursday between 11:00AM – 2:00PM

Summerside / Queens County: Delivered every Wednesday and Friday between 10:00AM – 2:00PM

Stratford / Mount Stewart: Delivered every Wednesday and Friday between 1:30PM – 4:30PM

King’s County: Delivered every Wednesday and Friday between 10:00AM – 2:00PM

Children will receive three (3) meals per child every Tuesday/Wednesday and four (4) meals per child every Thursday/Friday, depending on location. The program will begin on July 7th, 2021 and end on September 3rd, 2021. Meals will be delivered directly to the address provided. We require that an individual be at the address to accept the meals. Meals will not be left unattended for food safety reasons.
