School Board Elections
Prince Edward Island (PEI) has two school boards responsible for the governance of the public education authorities: the Public Schools Branch (PSB) which oversees the English language school system and la Commission scolaire de langue francaise’ (CSLF) which oversees the French language school system.
Each school board is governed by their own independent board of trustees. Trustees are elected or appointed representatives who provide oversight and direction for the delivery of public education. Their responsibilities include approving budgets, strategic planning, ensuring schools are safe and maintained, and representing the interests of students, families, and communities.
School board elections are held every three years to provide Island residents with the opportunity to elect trustees in their local electoral zones. Through these elections, residents play a direct role in shaping the governance of the province’s education system.
