Behind-the-scenes look at PEI's justice system

Free public education sessions include tours of courtrooms, the law library and holding cells.
The Law and the Courts program is led by PEI judges who explain the basic legal principles in areas such as criminal law, family law and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The sessions are presented by the Prince Edward Island Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island. The Community Legal Information Association (CLIA) will also be at the sessions.
Dates and topics
November 13: The court system in Prince Edward Island and Canada; the separation of powers in government; how boards and tribunals affect people's rights; tour of the courthouse.
November 20: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms; criminal law.
November 27: Family law; civil law including personal injury; contracts.
