PEI Potato Wart Emergency Contingency Fund

The Prince Edward Island Potato Wart Emergency Contingency Fund has been established to provide support to the PEI agriculture industry for unanticipated costs and activities due to potato wart related restrictions.

Growers and agriculture businesses are encouraged to connect with their respective industry organizations (such as PEI Potato Board, PEI Horticulture Association, etc.) prior to submitting their respective application for the contingency fund. The Government of Prince Edward Island will work with industry organizations to ensure that applications that meet criteria are processed, and the respective applicant is appropriately contacted.

Who is eligible for funding?

  • PEI Potato Board;
  • Agriculture industry organizations representing other commodities;
  • Mi’kmaq First Nations and other Indigenous Organizations;
  • Government of PEI; and
  • Other entities, as approved by the Department of Agriculture and Land

What activities are eligible for funding?

The PEI Potato Wart Emergency Contingency Fund has been created to give agriculture industry groups, and its members, access to funding to further adjust and adapt to new measures and practices needed to address the effects of trade suspensions placed on PEI potatoes and various other crops by the federal government on November 22, 2021.

Approved activities by the Department of Agriculture and Land include, but are not limited to:

  • Crisis management resources;
  • Exploring of new market developments;
  • Accessing additional mental health services;
  • Accessing additional support for markets that may have been lost;
  • Strategy development, and;
  • Any other eligible costs related to responding to the impacts of potato wart.

How can I apply?

Growers and agriculture businesses are encouraged to connect with their respective industry organizations (such as PEI Potato Board, PEI Horticulture Association, etc.) prior to submitting their respective application for the contingency fund. Agriculture Industry Organizations will work with growers and agriculture businesses to form an application, and applications can be sent to the Department of Agriculture and Land via E-mail or Postal Mail.
