Do I need a permit to drill a well?

Depending upon the capacity and the location of the well, a permit to drill a well may be required.

A Well Permit is required if the well is to be:

A Groundwater Exploration Permit is required if the well is:

  • intended or required to be pumped at a rate of 4 litres per second (50 gallons per minute) or greater; or
  • to be used to provide water to a central water supply system.

Who can drill a well?

Only a licensed well driller is permitted to drill a well. A list of licensed well drilling companies servicing Prince Edward Island is provided below.
