Seniors Action Plan 2026-2031
The 2026-2031 Seniors Action Plan [3.9Mb] outlines Prince Edward Island’s five-year roadmap to support the older adult population through targeted, coordinated, and measurable actions. The Seniors Action Plan builds upon previous successes and implements new strategies that integrate the current and future needs of older adults.
The Seniors Action Plan is centered around three overarching pillars, which include:
- Promoting positive perceptions of aging;
- Enhancing well-being and healthy aging; and,
- Strengthening services and collaboration across sectors.
These three pillars are operationalized through 10 themes, which include:
- Enhancing information sharing, awareness and collaboration;
- Strengthening the healthcare system;
- Enhancing social connection;
- Preventing older adult abuse and neglect;
- Promoting education and training opportunities;
- Improving financial security;
- Expanding housing options
- Enhancing access to food;
- Expanding transportation options; and,
- Promoting age-friendly communities.
In total, there are 79 actionable recommendations within this plan that will aim to ensure that older adults can age with dignity, independence, security and connection.
This plan was shaped by extensive input from seniors, Indigenous elders, community organizations, service providers, and Government partners. This input, and information about the formal engagement process, can be found in the “What We Heard” Report.
Over the next five years, the PEI Seniors’ Secretariat and Government partners will work together to implement, monitor and report on the recommendations of the Seniors Action Plan. This includes completing annual reports on the progress of the Seniors Action Plan: the first annual report will be prepared and published on this webpage by October 31, 2027.
