Prince Edward Island Affiliated Schools Program

Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) Department of Education and Early Years offers a globally recognized, innovative curriculum to students worldwide through the PEI Affiliated Schools Program.

Students registered in our affiliated schools receive instruction in English by PEI Certified Teachers and follow the PEI Program of Studies and Curriculum. Students in the affiliated schools who meet all of the PEI Graduation Requirements will graduate with a PEI High School Certificate. This creates a path that supports international students to come to PEI to continue their studies, live, and work.

We continue to work with and seek new global partners to make our excellent kindergarten to Grade 12 curricula available to students in other countries.

Becoming an Affiliated School with Prince Edward Island

PEI Affiliated Schools are located outside of Canada and are inspected and certified by the Government of P.E.I. through the Department of Education and Early Years.

To operate a PEI Affiliated School, you should be prepared to make a significant investment of time and resources.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to begin operation as a PEI Affiliated School in your country of origin.

How to Get Started?

Before initiating the application process, you can request for the Prince Edward Island Affiliated Schools Program Operations and Procedures Manual by contacting the staff Department at amhall@gov.pe.ca. Understanding this manual will provide you with essential insights into the requirements and expectations associated with operating a PEI Affiliated School.

Step 1: Express your Interest

To begin the process, please contact the Department staff at amhall@gov.pe.ca to request an Expression of Interest form. Once we receive your complete Expression of Interest, we will review your submission. If accepted, you will be invited to proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: The Interview

An interview will be conducted to assess your motivation, capacity, goals, and plans. This interview will help determine alignment with P.E.I.'s educational philosophy and support the outcomes of the P.E.I international program. It's also an opportunity for you to gather information and ask questions. If the Department believes you have the potential to successfully operate a PEI Affiliated School, you may be invited to Step 3.

Step 3: Invitation to Apply

At this stage, you will submit an Application for a Prince Edward Island Affiliated School along with supporting documents, including a business plan, audited financial statements, and local government approvals. Your application will be reviewed, and you may be asked for additional information. If your application meets all required criteria, you will move on to Step 4.

Step 4: Letter of Intent

After a successful review of your application, you will receive preliminary approval through a Letter of Intent. Final approval depends on ongoing communication of progress and a successful completion of Step 5.

Step 5: Site Inspection

A Department’s appointed inspection team will conduct an on-site inspection of your school. All relevant travel and accommodation expenses for the inspection team will be paid by your school. The Department will make a decision based on the inspection team's recommendations. Passing the site inspection may lead to Step 6.

Step 6: Signing Agreement

If your school successfully passes the site inspection, you will sign a Prince Edward Island Affiliated School Agreement with the Government of P.E.I. represented by the Department of Education and Early Years. Additionally, you will be required to pay curriculum usage fees, program administration fees, and student registration fees.

The approval process duration can vary, taking between 12 to 18 months or longer depending on the complexity of your application.

PEI remains committed to partnering with schools worldwide to provide access to our excellent Kindergarten to Grade 12 curricula and education opportunities. We encourage interested parties to reach out to our Department staff for further information and support throughout this process.
