What is FPT and industry relations?
The department works diligently to advocate on behalf of our province’s commercial fishing industry at the federal/ provincial and territorial level to ensure that the interests of our province are represented and understood.
Department staff represents the province on numerous FPT species advisory committees such as
- Gulf Small Pelagics
- Atlantic Large Pelagics
- Gulf Snow Crab
- Southern Gulf Lobster
- Gulf Shrimp
- Southern Gulf Scallop
- Northern Shrimp.
Department staff represents the province on numerous FPT intergovernmental committees related to the marine and coastal environment.
The department works closely with the Prince Edward Island commercial fishing industry participating in advisory boards for:
- lobster
- tuna
- herring
- mackerel
- groundfish
- rock crab
- snow crab
- estuarial species.
