Personal Services Facility Inspections

A personal service facility is a business in which a person provides a personal service to or on the body of another person. Examples of personal services include, but not limited to, body piercing, hair services, manicure, massage, pedicure, tattooing, teeth whitening (excluding dental), waxing, etc.
Personal-service facilities in PEI do not require a licence, but are monitored to ensure appropriate sanitary operations are followed. Facilities offering high-risk procedures that penetrate human skin such as tattooing or body piercing require regular inspection and approval from Environmental Health. Lower risk personal services, such as nail salons and foot baths, are inspected on a complaint basis only.
All facility inspections are completed under authority of the Public Health Act and the PEI Guidelines for Personal Service Facilities.
The PEI Hairdressers Association inspects registered hair services in the province for sanitary standards.
