Tourism Accommodation Accelerator Program
The Tourism Accommodation Accelerator Program will provide a complimentary $100 Canada’s Food Island Gift Card to visitors who stay at least two consecutive nights at participating accommodations.
The program will run from May 1st to June 15th, 2022.
Operators should not promote the program to guests until they have been accepted and notified by the program administrator.
Eligibility
The Tourism Accommodation Accelerator Program has the following operator eligibility criteria:
- must hold a valid accommodation licence for 2022;
- the licensed accommodation is not used, in whole or in part, for primary residential purposes, with the exception of properties licensed as Bed & Breakfasts;
- must have more than one (1) accommodation unit; and
- must be a fixed-roof accommodation.
Participation Requirements
In order to participate in the Tourism Accommodation Accelerator Program, you will be required to review and sign a participation agreement. The participation agreement outlines that you are required to:
- attest that you have read the eligibility criteria and verify that you are eligible to participate;
- provide the necessary information to administer the program (e.g. contact information, address, number of units, etc.); and
- be bound to the reporting provisions of the program.
Acceptance as an accommodation participant is subject to the approval of eligibility by Tourism PEI.
Failure to strictly adhere to the requirements set out in the participation agreement may disqualify you as an operator from further participation in the program.
Reporting Requirements
Participants are required to submit booking registrations using an online form as eligible bookings are received . This form must be filled out at the time each eligible booking as it is used to assign gift cards to customers, ensuring traceability of gift card distribution.
The $100 gift cards are provided to operators with funds locked. It is only after you submit your booking registrations with the valid booking information of gift card supply that gift cards are unlocked.
Your activity reports require booking details, gift card reference number(s) and customer details.
Administration and Gift Card Distribution
The Hotel Association of PEI will manage all program administration including the operator registration and reporting requirements outlined above. In addition, a third-party group will manage the supply and circulation of the gift cards.
The number of available $100 Canada Food Island gift cards for this program is capped. Initially, there will be an equitable distribution of gifts cards to participating accommodation operators. The number of units each operator makes available in the program will be used to determine this distribution. Following this, gift card distribution will be based on customer demand reflected in the reports submitted by participating operators (i.e. booking information).
Gift cards are earmarked for customers on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the time of booking and while supply lasts. The booking must be for a stay that will occur during the program period, May 1 to June 15, 2022.
To ensure that all gift cards get into the hands of consumers, gift card supplies from the initial distribution that are not likely to be used may need to be redistributed. If all participating operators are able to utilize their initial allotment there will be no reclaiming of gift cards.
