Government is progressing towards women’s equality

The provincial government continues to work with the Prince Edward Island Advisory Council on the Status of Women to improve women’s lives in our province.

Government received a B- grade on the advisory council's 2018 Equality Report Card, which highlights areas of progress and areas of opportunities. While there has been significant progress on bridging the gender equality gap – including gender and diversity considerations in policy, improvements in mental health supports, and structures that help confront violence against women -- work is still underway to move gender parity figures.

“I am certainly proud that we have broken down some barriers and opened up some doors, but there still remains a lot of work to get done,” said Minister Paula Biggar, minister responsible for the Status of Women. “Prince Edward Island is mighty because we are able to act quickly and nimbly to make positive change. My colleagues and I will continue to consciously work towards improving gender and diversity measures in meaningful ways.”
