Carbon Capture Tree Planting Program

Le contenu suivant est seulement disponible en anglais.
PLEASE NOTE: The Carbon Capture Tree Planting program is no longer accepting applications. Please refer to the PEI-2 Billion Tree Program or the Forest Enhancement Program for details and applications.

Planting and tending trees is one of the tools that can be used to combat rising greenhouse gas levels because trees use and store tremendous amounts of carbon over their lifespan.

This year the Province of Prince Edward Island is seeking to return approximately 175 ha of old fields and marginal lands to forest cover by planting native tree species suited to those sites. Priority areas include:

• High Sloped fields
• Sites with sensitive soils
• Watershed areas with reduced forest cover

Other areas may also be considered as well. Funded by the Province of PEI, the Carbon Capture Tree Planting Program (CCTPP) covers all planting and seedling costs. Participating land owners may also be eligible for a one-time payment for the planted area as well as additional forest management services offered through the Forest Enhancement Program.

What is covered under the program?

The Carbon Capture Tree Planting Program covers all planting costs, as well as a one-time Alternate Land Uses Service (ALUS) payment for the planted area. Sites planted under CCTPP are also eligible for other services offered through the Forest Enhancement Program.

What do I need to complete the online application?

You will be asked to provide information:

  •     Property owner(s) name
  •     Current mailing address with postal code and phone number
  •     Property ID (PID) for each site to be planted

In addition, you must check boxes to indicate your agreement with the disclaimer and privacy statements.

How long will it take to complete the online form?

It will take about 15 minutes to complete the CCTPP application form.

How long will it take to process my application*?

In most cases it takes several weeks to process program applications.

*  Due to the requirement for an on-site assessment of the planting area to ensure it meet CCTPP criteria, submitting an application does not mean automatic acceptance into the program.
