Request for Property Tax Certificate

As a service, Taxation and Property Records processes Tax Certificate requests submitted by a property owner or their legal representative. The purpose of a Tax Certificate is to confirm the amount of property tax, interest, and any other charges payable against a specific PID at a specific date.

Who can request a Tax Certificate?

Legal representatives from approved law firms acting on behalf of property owners may apply for a Tax Certificate through this webform. If you are unsure whether your firm is approved, please contact Taxation and Property Records before proceeding.

How do I request a Tax Certificate?

Legal representatives from approved law firms can submit a request using the "Submit a Property Tax Certificate Request" button at the bottom of this page.

PLEASE NOTE:

• Tax Certificates can no longer be requested via phone, fax, or email. 
• Requests are typically completed within 3-5 business days. Processing times may be longer during annual billing in May.

Is there a fee for requesting a Tax Certificate?

Yes. The fee for a Tax Certificate is $20.00 and must be paid by credit card at the time the request is submitted through the webform.

What happens if I request a Tax Certificate and pay the fee, but my request is not valid (i.e. not from an approved law firm)?

Refunds for tax certificate payments made in error, when applicable, will be issued by cheque or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and not refunded to your credit card. All refund requests are processed within an estimated timeframe of 4–6 weeks.
