Province-wide aerial photographs of Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island is rich in aerial photographs. Beginning as early as 1935, full provincial coverage has been flown in Black & White, Colour and Infrared format. These years include 1935, 1958, 1968, 1974, 1990, 2000 and most recently in 2010. The 2010 coverage represented a significant change in the collection of aerial photography as it was done entirely in digital format. The 2010 images were taken in August of 2010 at a resolution of 0.5metres meaning an object on the ground had to be 50 cm to be viewed, a vast improvement over previous years. The resultant files are extremely large in size (1Gbyte per map) and primarily require dedicated GIS (Geographic Information System) software for viewing.
Historical aerial photography
Electronic images have been reduced in size for use on most computers without GIS Software. View electronic versions of historical aerial imagery.
