Self-Published Materials Policy

Works by self-published authors who are not residents of PEI will be evaluated with the selection criteria identified in the Public Library Service’s Collections Policy. If purchased, these materials will be added to the standard fiction or non-fiction collections.

To support self-published local authors, the Library has established a Local Authors Collection. For ease of access and use, the Local Authors Collection will include both self-published and professionally published local authors.

Selection Requirements for Local Authors Collection

• Authors must be a permanent or seasonal resident of Prince Edward Island
• Authors may submit a Self-Published Materials Consideration Form for their book or may be identified by the designated librarian
• All titles will be evaluated by the designated librarian before being purchased or accepted for placement in the Local Author Collection
• Authors may donate copies of self-published books. Donations will be evaluated according to the Public Library Service’s Donation Policy and are not guaranteed inclusion in the collection
• Self-published local histories or genealogies may be considered for inclusion in the Local History Collection
• Titles in the Local Authors Collection will be subject to deselection as outlined in the Collections Policy
