Annual Funding to Support Services for Islanders with Spinal Cord Injuries
Funding announced today by the province will enhance services for people with mobility challenges, including those living with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities.
Spinal Cord Injury Prince Edward Island assists its clients in a variety of ways including advocacy, peer support, fitness programs, and accessibility reviews for local businesses. Their goal is to help their clients achieve independence, self-reliance, and full community participation.
“Spinal Cord Injury PEI does a tremendous job supporting and advocating for Islanders who have various levels of mobility challenges due to spinal injury. Their programs give these Islanders a chance to connect to peer support programs that can help them manage the emotional toll these injuries can often create, not to mention the fitness and advocacy programs that are so important for the physical and mental health of its clients.”
— Minister of Social Development and Seniors Barb Ramsay
The Department of Social Development and Seniors provides over $82,000 in annual funding for the organization’s operations.
“Provincial support is crucial to our ability to provide these important supports and programs to our clientele. The physical and emotional impact brought on by a spinal injury can be devastating to individuals and families and this funding helps to ensure we provide that assistance to the people when they need it most.”
— Spinal Cord Injury PEI Executive Director Glen Flood
