The PEI Public Library Service, under the direction of the Director of Libraries and Archives, shall create policies that define the scope and limits within which the Library operates. These policies shall provide effective parameters and directions for decisions and actions undertaken by management and staff. To this end, the Director of Libraries and Archives will ensure that an effective policy-making process is in place for all public libraries under the authority of the PEI Public Library Service.
Library policy will be developed as follows:
- The need for a policy shall be communicated to the Director of Libraries and Archives by any member of the PEI Public Library Service management team.
- Policies will be developed and considered by the PEI Public Library Service management team. Official approval of policies is given by the Director of Libraries and Archives.
- Approved policies will be communicated to all staff as directives and are applicable to all libraries and will be made available to the public.
- Existing policies will be reviewed every three years or as the need arises. New policies may be created at any time.
- Procedures are operational in nature and are put in place to implement Library policy directions. Procedures that implement policies may be developed by staff in consultation with managers.
