Liquid manure found in Cousins Pond

Conservation and environment officers responded to a report of a major liquid manure spill in the evening of June 3, 2020. 

The spill impacted approximately four kilometers between the stream near Irishtown to the North Shore at Cousins Pond. Over 500 deceased fish were observed and collected as legal evidence near the impacted site.

Silt fences and a series of three dams were constructed and installed to stop the flow of product into the waterways. As of 7:00 p.m. on June 3, 2020, product was no longer entering the stream. 

Collected samples will be sent for analysis and clean up efforts continue. This incident remains under investigation.
