Creating jobs for Islanders -

Overnight stays on Prince Edward Island have surpassed the one-million mark for the first time.

Total overnight stays is a measurement of room nights sold at roofed accommodations combined with campground site nights sold. The next-highest total was 964,671, which was achieved in 2016.

“The credit for this incredible accomplishment goes to tourism industry operators, business owners, and everyday Islanders who work so hard to promote our province and make it one of the best vacation destinations in the world,” Economic Development and Tourism Minister Heath MacDonald said. “We’ve had many successes in tourism over the last few years - including four-straight record years - and we continue to work hard to ensure this industry remains one of the main reasons why Prince Edward Island is mighty.”

Tourism PEI is also projecting record spending levels and total visitation for 2017.

“2017 has been another amazing year for the industry, for the Cavendish region, and for our business,” Fairway Cottages owner Sandi Lowther said. “I look forward to continued collaboration with all levels of government and regional partners to sustain our momentum.”
