PEI Broadband Fund now accepting applications

September 27, 2019

The PEI Broadband Fund is another step towards improving internet services for Islanders across the province.

The PEI Broadband Fund (PEIBF) will provide financial assistance for the installation of infrastructure that will enhance broadband services. Island communities, businesses and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can apply now for up to 50% of eligible costs for a project approved through the PEIBF.

“Islanders need quality and affordable high speed internet for education, business growth and overall quality of life. This fund will help Island companies, support our local Internet Service Providers and meet the needs of our growing communities now and into the future.”

 -  Hon. Matthew MacKay, Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture

The following may be eligible for funding through the PEIBF:

  • A local ISP installing broadband infrastructure that will improve internet access to a community, increase service levels and/or improve consumer choice; or
  • A PEI community that requires increased internet service levels or has unserved / underserved areas; or
  • A PEI for-profit business that is a sole proprietorship, partnership, cooperative or limited liability company that requires access to new or upgraded services to their business premises.

Government will invest $10 million into the PEI Broadband Fund over the next five years.
