Ernie Hudson was first elected as the MLA for District 26, Alberton - Bloomfield, in the 2019 general election and was re-elected on April 3, 2023.
A graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the University of Guelph, Mr. Hudson worked for several years in West Prince with the Department of Agriculture and operated his family’s dairy farm in Cascumpec for 27 years. He has also worked as constituency manager for Egmont MP Hon. Gail Shea and as chief of staff in the Opposition Office. He previously served as a steward and trustee of O’Leary United Church, a board member of the Rev. W. J. Phillips Residence, and chair of the West Prince Health Board.
In May 2019, he was appointed Minister of Social Development and Housing. In February 2021, he was sworn in as Minister of Health and Wellness, and in April 2023 he became Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. In
February 2026, he was sworn in as Minister of Fisheries, Rural Development and Tourism.
Mr. Hudson lives in Fortune Cove. He has two adult daughters who live with their husbands in Cascumpec, and five grandchildren.
