Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Licence Application

To practice Emergency Medical Technology in this province you are required to be registered with the EMS Board of Prince Edward Island. A registration is valid for up to two years and must be renewed according to the renewal cycle which is every second year. All current EMT licences expire March 31st 2021.

What do I need to complete the online registration? 

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • Identification and contact details
  • Licence Application Type (new graduate, provincial transfer, international, renewal or lapsed)
  • Paramedic education (school, program name, certification and transcript, and completion date)
  • Current licence and employment status - if applicable (current employer, former workplaces, licence/registration number, expiry, regulatory body)
  • Disclosure of issues related to professional conduct or practice, regulatory discipline or licensing conditions
  • Uploaded documents as follows:
  • Full licence fee payment - $100 (This fee is non-refundable.)

EMT certification and documentation requirements, according to application types:

  • New Graduates: (first-time Registration):  
    • Program certificate from an accredited Canadian Medical Association training program or equivalent (completed within the previous two years);
    • Proof of successful completion of an approved entry-to-practice exam (ex. COPR/OCRP).
  • Labour Mobility: (Currently registered in another Canadian province and seeking licensure in PEI)
    • Current licence/registration number, expiry date and regulatory body for each jurisdiction;
    • Proof of meeting requirements of current jurisdiction and having practiced within the previous two years; and
    • Valid “Verification of Registration” sent to all regulators where you hold a licence
  • International: (Educated outside of Canada and not previously licensed in a Canadian province).
  • Renewal: (Currently licensed to practice as an EMT in PEI and seek to renew your licence before expiry). 
    • All current credentials including CPR, ACLS, CRC, and driver's abstract.
    • Record of active practice as an EMT, in relation to at least 10 patients who require emergency medical services within the previous 2 years (subject to pro-ration);
    • Minimum 20 continuing education units earned within each two-year period defined by the Board (subject to pro-ration);
  • Lapsed (PEI licence expired less than three years)
    • Expired licence/registration number, expiry date and regulatory body for each jurisdiction;
    • Record of active practice as an EMT, in relation to at least 10 patients who require emergency medical services within the previous 2 years (subject to pro-ration);
    • Minimum 20 continuing education units earned within each two-year period defined by the Board (subject to pro-ration);
