July has been declared as Automotive Heritage Month in Prince Edward Island by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, James Aylward and members of the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada (NAACC).

The NAACC has a rich history of over 50 years and is celebrating having nearly every province declare July as Automotive Heritage Month since 2010. Collector Car Appreciation Day is also recognized on July 9.

“Automobiles have helped shape the history on our Island since 1866 when the first automobile in Canada was brought to Prince Edward Island. The NAACC helps us preserve that history. Automobiles are becoming increasingly innovative and performing more efficiently with options such as hybrid and electric. This creates a lasting impact in our community and helps PEI as we work toward our goal of Net Zero energy.”

- Transportation and Infrastructure Minister James Aylward

The NAACC uses its vehicles to give back to communities and its members have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities across Canada.

“The mission of the NAACC is to help preserve the automotive hobby for present members and future generations,” said Wilfred Moase, vice president, National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada. “The purpose of this declaration is to recognize the importance the automobile has had in the lives of everyone for the past 100 plus years, and we encourage all enthusiasts to celebrate in July to honour the hobby we all enjoy.”
