Gallant, Hon. Sonny
Sonny Gallant was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in May 2007 and re-elected in October 2011 and February 2015. He is a Liberal and he represents the constituency of Evangeline - Miscouche. He served as Government House Leader for seven years (2010-2017) and has been a member of many legislative committees.
On February 15, 2017, he was appointed Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning. He is the minister responsible for labour, post-secondary education, and population development.
Sonny Gallant was a past member of the following legislative committees: Standing Committee on Fisheries, Transportation and Rural Development (former chair); Operations Committee; Legislative Management Committee; Standing Committee on Community and Intergovernmental Affairs; Standing Committee on Health, Social Development and Seniors; Standing Committee on Public Accounts; Standing Committee on Education and Economic Development; Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Energy, and Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations, Private Bills and Privileges.
He currently sits on the Standing Committee of Agriculture and Fisheries; Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations, Private Bills & Privileges; and Policy Review Committee (Chair).
Sonny Gallant has been active in his community as past chair of the Miscouche Community Council, a leader in the Scout movement, past board member of the Miscouche Legion Senior Citizens Home, and past director of the Acadian Purchase Trust.
Gallant was a business person and has also spent many years coaching minor hockey and softball. He enjoys the game of golf. Sonny Gallant and his wife Linda are life-long residents of Miscouche and have three sons.
