Sidney grew up in St. Peter’s Harbour, PEI, and lives there today with his three children. His legislative work reflects the future he wants to help shape for Rylan, Mason, and Mara. He holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Dalhousie University and has worked as a business consultant, Opposition Office Chief of Staff, and in the Provincial Department of Health. Sidney has also fished lobster and tuna out of Red Head Harbour since 2005.
Since being elected in 2015, and re-elected in 2019 and 2023, Sidney has remained actively involved in his community. He has served on the executive of the North Side Communities Initiative, the Morell and Area Development Corporation, and the St. Peter’s Harbour Lighthouse Society. He continues to coach minor hockey and baseball, teaches catechism, and volunteers with local schools.
Throughout his legislative career, Sidney has served as Government House Leader and as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts; the Standing Committee on Legislative Management; the Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations, Private Bills and Privileges; the Standing Committee on Committees; the Special Standing Committee on Climate Change; and the Special Standing Committee on Government Records Retention.
On March 25, 2025, Sidney was elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly by secret ballot of elected MLAs. He served in that role until February 2026 when he was sworn in as Minister of Housing and Communities and Minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy.
