Environmental Emergency Response
An Environmental Emergency Responder is on call 24 hours a day to respond to environmental emergencies. When an environmental emergency is reported after hours, the call will be answered by the Canadian Coast Guard Atlantic Region/Environment Canada Pollution Reporting Center. They will then forward the emergency information to the Department of Communities, Land and Environment.
The above number can be used to report an environmental emergency 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During regular working hours, you may also report an environmental emergency directly to the Department of Communities, Land and Environment at (902) 368-5024.
What kind of emergencies does this include?
The Environmental Emergency Response Team responds to environmental emergencies including:
- oil, pesticide and chemical spills;
- air quality problems; or
- fish kills.
