At the request of the school authorities or the school administration, French Education, Programs and Services can evaluate the language competency of candidates seeking teaching positions.
What level of French oral language proficiency is required to teach French as a second language on P.E.I.?
- In the French Immersion program, you must achieve the superior level
- In the Core French program, you must achieve the advanced level

How do I prepare for my French oral language proficiency evaluation?

How are the results of my French oral language proficiency evaluation communicated?
A letter stating the French oral language proficiency level will be emailed to both the candidate and the school authorities. Please allow up to 5 business days for processing.
What if I am not satisfied with the level and want to redo my evaluation?
- There is a six month waiting period before candidates can request another evaluation; however, should the candidate take intensive language training for at least three weeks, they can make a request to be evaluated a second time.
- You can request a second opinion where another evaluator will listen to the recording of your evaluation and confirm the level assigned.
When are French oral language proficiency evaluations available?
Evaluations are booked Monday to Friday during provincial government business hours and can be in person in both Charlottetown and Summerside or virtually using Google Meet. Please note that evaluation dates are predetermined by the French Education, Programs and Services staff and do not occur on a daily basis.
