Adoption

You can adopt a child of any age. This includes adoptions of children living on Prince Edward Island as well as international adoptions.

There are children living in foster care in PEI in who need safe, loving, and stable families to adopt them. If you are interested in adopting one of these children, the first step in the process to call Adoption Services at the number below to book a family assessment by a social worker. 

If you are pregnant and choose to have your baby adopted, you can do so. You can arrange to have your child adopted by a family you know or a family that you will not know and they won’t know you.

Post-Adoption Services

There are a number of post adoption services available for adult adoptees, adoptive parents and birth parents. These services include:

  • Adoption information service;
  • Reciprocal Search Register; and
  • Active Search Service for adult adoptees.
