Duty to Report

If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child, it is your legal duty to report it to Child Protection Services.

Every person who knows or suspects that a child (a person under the age of 18) needs protection MUST REPORT.

When?

Report the situation as soon as possible. If you have new knowledge or information to believe a child needs protection, you must report again.

How am I protected?

Your identity will remain anonymous.

What do I report?

A child is in need of protection when the safety or wellbeing of the child is endangered because of the following circumstances and/or actions by a parent or guardian:

  • Physical Harm
  • Emotional Harm
    • Including, but not limited to, chronic alcohol or drug abuse by the parent or anyone living in the same residence as the child.
  • Family Violence
  • Sexual Abuse or Sexual Exploitation
  • Neglect
  • Abandonment
  • Child has or is likely to seriously harm a person or animal intentionally or seriously damage property intentionally and there is no ability or willingness of a parent to address or prevent the issue.
