An advocate for small business

Many people who live in the Charlottetown area know Jennifer Evans.

The general manager  of Ocean 100 and Hot 105.5 radio stations can also be found chairing the Gold Cup Parade committee and serving on the boards of Junior Achievement, the Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Holland College Foundation.

She can now add membership in the Innovation PEI board to her CV. Evans was chosen - after applying through Engage PEI - as one of the board’s three new members.  Engage PEI gives Islanders an opportunity to apply to more than 70 provincial government agencies, boards, and commissions.

Evans says she thought her experience in media, advertising and marketing, and knowledge of the challenges small Island businesses face, would make her views beneficial to the board.

“I always like to be involved in as many different aspects of the community as possible,” Evans explains. “I wanted to get an inside look into how government is run and to be part of shaping the economy as we move forward.

“There isn’t anyone in business across the Island who doesn’t want to do more, and do better next year,” she said. “Small businesses are the engine of our economy and when they’re successful, the province is successful.”

Jennifer fills her days volunteering and raising her two children with her husband, Red Shores Marketing Manager Lee Drake. She can be found at the gym bright and early each day and is  learning to ski at Brookvale. She also enjoys ‘contributing to the local economy’ by shopping at local businesses.
