Energy minister meets with federal, provincial colleagues

Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar showcased Prince Edward Island’s innovations when she met with federal, provincial, and territorial energy ministers last weekend.
The Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference (EMMC) in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick featured discussions on shared priorities for jointly developing energy and mining across the country. Minister Biggar commented on the province’s contribution in several categories including Canada’s building strategy, energy efficiency, market transformation, zero-emission vehicles, and interprovincial energy collaboration.
"It was great to see collaboration and agreement across the jurisdictions, and also the dedication to moving forward on clean energy initiatives that will help grow our economy,” Minister Biggar said. “Prince Edward Island continues to show the rest of the country one of the things that makes us a mighty Island – that we are making big things happen in renewable energy despite our small size, and we continue to explore cutting-edge innovations like storage, smart grids, and electric vehicles.”
In her capacity as minister responsible for the Status of Women, she also presented on barriers and best practices regarding women in the energy and mining sectors in Canada.
“We remain focused on energy efficiency as a tool to reduce our environmental impact and reduce costs for Islanders,” the minister said. “The conversations at EMMC have reinforced the value of interties, such as our PEI-NB cable interconnection, to allow for improved distribution of clean energy.
“Together, we are building a sustainable and resilient future for all Canadians, and developing a path forward to reduce barriers for women in this sector."
