PEI residents aged 55 and older are invited to attend a series of free workshops designed to help them better understand the federal and provincial benefits they may be eligible for.
“It’s vital that older Islanders take all the necessary steps to ensure they acquire access to the appropriate supports and services. These workshops will allow our Seniors Navigators, Service Canada, and other organizations to present information on federal supports like Old Age Pension and the Canadian Dental Care Plan, as well as provincial supports like the Seniors Independence Initiative. These supports add to the quality of life and independence for PEI seniors.”
— Minister of Social Development and Seniors Barb Ramsay
Nine Seniors’ Financial Workshops will be held in communities across PEI throughout September and October. Seven of the sessions will be half-day events, while two full-day sessions – one in Charlottetown and one in Summerside – will offer additional presentations from Community Legal Information on wills and power of attorney, and Hospice PEI on advanced care planning.
"It is important for seniors to be aware of the resources available to them at the federal, provincial and community levels so that quality of life in our senior years can be as enjoyable as possible, and these information workshops will contribute to that end,” said President of the PEI Senior Citizens’ Federation Barbara Wright MacKenzie. “Through our Federation we will make these dates known to all our seniors’ clubs and encourage our members Island wide to attend."
