Fisheries and Aquaculture funding program accepting more applications

Island fishing, aquaculture and seafood processing companies can once again apply for financial support through the PEI Fisheries and Aquaculture Research, Innovation and Growth (RIG) Program.

The program launched in 2019 to help Island companies in the fisheries and aquaculture industries adopt innovative and creative solutions to enhance their efficiency and quality through industry-led research.

“As we have seen in the last few months, demand for PEI’s world class seafood products has never been higher. To ensure that we remain competitive and world leaders in delivering quality oysters, mussels, lobsters and other amazing seafood, helping our growers, fishers and processors access industry-led innovations just makes sense. I encourage any Island company in the industry to put forward an application to our RIG Program.”

- Fisheries and Communities Minister Jamie Fox

Since the program began, 19 Island companies received funding to help them carry out sustainable projects in the oyster, mussel, and lobster sectors in PEI.
