Frontier Power Systems expanding to former Georgetown Timber Yard

Frontier Power Systems owner Carl Brothers knew his Island company needed more manufacturing space to keep up with growing demand for its wind turbine blades.

So today, Brothers and the province of Prince Edward Island announced that the company will expand into the former Georgetown Timber Yard.  Brothers has worked to develop wind-power technology for remote communities around the world for the last 15 years.

“We require additional space in the very near term to serve as a production facility for our blades,” Brothers said. “The facilities at Georgetown Timber are appropriately sized for our needs and local for our personnel and we’re excited to be moving in.”

Frontier Power Systems will sign a ten year lease with the province and will make investments to renovate the facility.

The expansion will allow Frontier to increase its eight-person staff by 14 positions as their new wind turbine product line rolls into the market, bringing their eventual total to at least 22 employees

“It might surprise some people to know that even in a small place like Prince Edward Island, we are privileged to have a company like Frontier Power Systems that  is on the cutting-edge of wind turbine technology,” Economic Development and Tourism Minister Heath MacDonald said. “We are very excited about this expansion, which will help create jobs, increase exports, and provide an economic boost in a rural part of the province.”

The company joins Eastern Fabricators as the second tenant to set up shop in the former Georgetown Timber Yard since it was purchased by the province in early 2016.
