Home repair grants double for Islanders

PEI’s home repair programs for families, seniors and Islanders in need of support are doubling immediately and are retroactive to April 1, 2021.

The 2021-22 provincial operating budget includes $2 million for the PEI Home Renovation, Seniors Home Repair, and Seniors Safe at Home programs.  Initially, the plan was to increase incrementally over a three-year period, but now eligible grants are doubling on any application received from April 1, 2021 and onward.

“We’ve been listening to feedback from people including our stakeholders, partners and clients. Islanders are in need of more funding support to keep their homes safe and accessible, so we are taking immediate action to double grant amounts.”

- Social Development and Housing Minister Brad Trivers

Depending on household income, eligible program funding will rise as follows:

  • Seniors Safe at Home will increase from $5,000 to $10,000;
  • Seniors Home Repair will increase from $2,000 to $4,000;
  • PEI Home Renovation for will increase from $6,000 to $12,000; and
  • PEI Home Renovation for people with disabilities will increase from $8,000 to $16,000.

These programs provide financial assistance to qualifying Islanders to help cover the cost of major structural renovations to their homes. Types of renovations can include structural, plumbing heating, electrical systems or changes that improve home safety.
