Islanders invited to give input on new legislation for dog owners
Islanders are being asked to provide comments and feedback on a new piece of legislation that focuses on enhancing safety for dog control.
The new Dog Owners Act will replace the Dog Act, and will focus on updating dog control and safety provisions while also improving on effective means of enforcement when a dangerous situation arises.
“I encourage all Islanders to participate in these consultations and send us their ideas, input and suggestions to update and modernize this piece of legislation. The previous legislation was drafted in the 1970’s, and has not been updated in some time, so we look forward to modernizing the process through new legislation to benefit all stakeholders while making our Island a safer place, and keeping animal welfare at the forefront.”
